The menu is a compendium of commonplaces, most featuring olive oil and calculated to please the mainly female and mainly shopping crowd that floods F and O mealtimes. Much of the pristine food is totally on the money, from elegant cheese plates to carpaccios busy with extraneous ingredients to crostini to pastas to perfectly turned-out pastries. You can't go wrong with salads, either, such as the signature assemblage of figs, olives, tomatoes, and three kinds of cheeses in an apple-balsamic dressing. Skip the soups, though, which are thin and austere. Nothing better for dessert than the diminutive and perky fig tart.
Say 'salad,' and most folks think of a pile of leafy greens, with a cherry tomato or two thrown on top. Though crisp, refreshing, and sometimes squirted with interesting dressings, its never been more than a bit player in the theater of repast.... More »
