A classic New York City cabaret with an old-city feel on the Upper East Side, Feinstein's at Loew’s Regency gives an up-close-and-personal look at reigning jazz talents. And with that old-city vibe comes a clientele to match (don’t come here expecting to meet a single twenty-somethings.) That aside, this is the kind of place you go to make a night of, but keep this one on hold for those special occasions. The cover charge is often high, and expensive cocktails will help you reach that $25 required drink minimum. However, it might be smart to drink your dinner and stay away from the food. Despite it Park Avenue prices, the food at Feinstein's doesn’t quite deliver like the music. --Dale Eisinger

With ticket prices that can veer to $142.63 (plus food and beverage charges), a visit to Feinstein's at Loews Regency might be advisable only if you've just sold off your entire Playbill collection. But for nostalgia freaks, it's worth it for the good sound, lack of snootiness, and overall high-quality experience, whether it be a star like Brooke Shields trying out cabaret material, a newish but seasoned singer like American Idol runner-up Melinda Doolittle belting love songs, or a treasure... Although the shows at FEINSTEIN'S begin at 8:30, best to order your exquisite meal by about 7:30 p.m. No clinking glasses or chattering patrons here: Service comes to a halt during the show. All chairs face forward. Then every eye in the place focuses on Rosemary Clooney, Cleo Laine, or some equally gracious performer. And the wait staff actually waits to bring you your bill until the final applause subsides. A $60 cover and $50 minimum may seem hefty, but you paid more for Madonna at... More »
