Three Aussies opened the European-inspired California restaurant Eveleigh in West Hollywood in 2010 and gave it a rustic charm and relaxed vibe with repurposed wood, potted plants and a fireplace (not to mention killer views in the garden patio) that’s comforting for locals who find dining on busy and pretentious Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood off-putting. Lunch is only served on Fridays, so the focus here is on dinner. Start on the low end with small plates like housemade charcuterie, artisanal cheeses and seasoned patatas bravas. It's no surprise when a Peruvian restaurant rolls out a slew of Pisco-based cocktails, but with the South American grape brandy in vogue these days, it's turning up at better-turned–out bars all over the city. At Eveleigh, an unexpectedly charming bar on the tackiest, most touristy stretch of the Sunset Strip, it's key to the sturdy Pisco Punch. "Punch" can be a dangerous word, an excuse for frat boys and bartenders to load hapless cocktails with nauseatingly sweet liqueurs and... More »
