Description

After 22 years in the Central West End, Euclid Records relocated farther west, landing in the picturesque expanse of Webster Groves. The store is 6,000 square feet of vinyl, cassettes, compact discs, local LPs and glory, and it ain't for nothin'—we've named it Best CD Store, Best Place to Buy Vinyl and Best Record Store more times than we can count. Euclid occasionally feature in-stores from local and national touring acts and even run their own boutique label. Euclid isn't just known in River City, it recently traveled even further west (and south) to our sister city; that other place where they celebrate Mardi Gras and love fleurs-de-lis: New Orleans. Down in the graffiti-splashed Bywater district you'll find the little pink building full of big sounds.

As far as cred-building résumés go, few groups can get near the Bo-Keys. The instrumental Memphis group has its roots in that city's best-loved soul acts: guitarist Skip Pitts used his wah-wah pedal to make Isaac Hayes' Shaft soundtrack a funk... More »

  • 2012 | Best CD/Record Store

Euclid Records is more than just a record shop. It is a link down the river to New Orleans, where it has a second location and a big pair of open arms for any bands from St. Louis headed toward the Gulf of Mexico. And Euclid isn't just selling recordings made by other people -- its proprietors also run a music label that's home to a few of St. Louis finest bands past and present. But let's not overlook Euclid Records' storefront, either, which is defiantly spacious in a time when record... More »

  • 2010 | Best CD Store (Used)

Euclid Records has had a busy year. The record store opened a second outpost in New Orleans, released the debut CD from Troubadour Dali on its newly formed record label and continued with its Euclid Sessions series of limited-edition 45s. What's lost in the hubbub? Its selection of used CDs continues to be the best in the city. Although the store's "this just in" bin has always overflowed with classics old and new -- we're talking both indie favorites and KSHE staples -- the... More »

  • 2009 | Best CD Store (Used)

For reasons that should be obvious, the best used record stores are generally located in close proximity to a college campus. Euclid Records, nestled just steps away from the green academic pastures of Webster University, is no exception. Its constant influx of nearly new CD titles gives it the best selection in the city. But that only accounts for what you'll find in the "just in" bin. The long aisle of alphabetized used CD titles is a trove of musical gems from great indie and college rock... More »

  • 2008 | Best CD/Record Store

With music so easy to obtain today via the Internet -- whether via legal or, ahem, not-so-legal means -- the act of buying an album at an actual brick-and-mortar record store is almost quaint. But Euclid Records resists obsolescence by stocking nearly as much catalog as any online retailer, meaning you can fulfill your every purchasing whim even quicker than clicking a mouse. The used section just inside the entrance contains a healthy selection of new releases and essential albums... More »

  • 2007 | Best CD/Record Store

Where there's a college, there are college kids who need beer money. And where there are thirsty post-adolescents, well, there's usually a better-than-average record store. Like Euclid Records, whose proximity to Webster University ensures that its used bin is always chock-full of new indie-rock releases, bizarre old-school gems and classic-rock staples -- thus proving the adage that one man's trash is another's PBR money. But the diversity and quality of Euclid's stock is nearly... More »

  • 2006 | Best CD/Record Store

Back in the day, the quality of a college town's record store determined whether the burg made the grade or failed Hip Amenities 101. But although brick-and-mortar establishments are going the way of the Walkman (and Discman), Euclid Records is a throwback to a simpler time, when knowledgeable clerks and tangible album artwork mattered. A bright, homey store tucked near Webster University, Euclid doesn't discriminate when it comes to the music it carries. The stuffed-to-the-gills used CD... More »

  • 2005 | Best Place to Buy Vinyl

For many record stores, stocking the outdated, oversize vinyl format is almost an afterthought, an area of the store where forgotten new-wave bands and surplus Fleetwood Mac albums go to gather dust. Euclid Records, on the other hand, lovingly devotes an entire room to the platters -- arranged with so much care that each individual Beatles album earns its own unique partition within a section. But the spacious racks of vinyl aren't this store's sole attraction. Take a gander at the vast... More »

  • 2004 | Best CD Store (Used)

Downloading music has taken some of the cachet from used CDs, at least as far as bargain-hunting goes: Why be happy to find the new Strokes album for two bucks cheaper when you could have gotten the whole thing for free? But at Euclid Records, you'll find CDs that you'd have gladly paid full price for if you hadn't stumbled across them here first. The CD purchasers are pretty stingy in their buying, which is a curse if you're looking to unload all of your old Smashing Pumpkins discs but a... More »

  • 2003 | Best Place to Buy Vinyl

For the true record hound, there is nothing like walking into a record store and inhaling the unmistakable smell of aged vinyl. A heady blend of countless basements, peach crates, dorm rooms, over-the-garage-apartments, wood-paneled dens, living rooms, sensimilla residue and human hands, long-play records carry the aroma of past lives, late nights and lonely hearts within their grooves. Euclid Records' new location is the Amsterdam for vinyl junkies: Row after row of perfectly aged LPs from... More »

  • 2000 | Best Jazz-Record Selection

It seems at this point pointless to declare oneself in the matter of analog vs. digital culture. Compact discs, whose sole salutary aspect is their compactness, provide an efficient, durable information-delivery system. But as recording media go, they're about as cool as dictation cassettes. Long-playing record albums, on the other hand, are pretty boss. In the basement of Euclid Records Vinyl Shack is the Jazz Hole, in which are records, a lot of records. In fact, the place is that rarest... More »

With music so easy to obtain today via the Internet — whether via legal or, ahem, not-so-legal means — the act of buying an album at an actual brick-and-mortar record store is almost quaint. But Euclid Records resists obsolescence by stocking nearly as much catalog as any online retailer, meaning you can fulfill your every purchasing whim even quicker than clicking a mouse. The used section just inside the entrance contains a healthy selection of new releases and essential albums in all genres — and that's not even counting the extensive $4.99 bargain bins to the right of the door. The spacious vinyl room is another world entirely, a space where bank-breaking rarities and pedestrian garage-sale gems — and all shades of LP in between — coexist in perfect harmony. Little music-geek flourishes make Euclid a haven for fans of tangible artifacts as well: racks of music books, shelves of new and old 45s and even imported live DVDs. Whether you're on a mission for a specific album or trying to find the next disc that'll change your life, Euclid's your go-to destination.
