There's nothing nouveau or trendy at this downtown Fort Lauderdale smokehouse/sports bar. Casual and funky (check out Ernie's anti-gold-standard diatribes framed all over the downstairs dining room), Ernie's is a favorite with customers who keep coming back for the oversized burgers, fresh conch chowder, and home-baked Bimini bread. The BBQ is tangy and full of tomatoes and onions; a rack of ribs is more reminiscent of slow-cooked Italian short ribs than Southern soul food, and they're absolutely delicious. Regulars also partake of the full bar, friendly service, and open-air upstairs patio for enjoying balmy Florida nights.

The Place is a DUMP. I had a craving for a cheeseburger & was on that side of town, so I decided to have a drink & get a burger to go. The burger was way overcooked & no sides. I got home with my tastebuds watering for this burger and it was totally screwed up. When I called to let them know, their attitude was less than responsive. Much like, "Tell your problems to Jesus", I drove back only to get the response, "Well, we will make it up to you next time." How do they know who I am, or if I am even in Ft. Lauderdale. NEVER EAT THERE!!!!!!!
