Ernesto's Taco Shop is an authentic, locally owned Mexican fast-food joint with a menu filled with rare dishes like tortas (Mexican sandwiches), menudo (cow stomach lining, available Saturday and Sunday), and tacos de lengua (beef tongue). Your favorite meals from late-night Taco Bell runs are here, too, just much better: burritos, enchiladas, and chimichangas made fresh. One of the most popular combination plates is the "three amigos" -- three tacos for $6.25. No two homemade taco shells are the same, and they are substantial and crisp. Try a taco al pastor, $2.25, literally meaning "shepherd style," a marinated meat slowly cooked on a vertical rotisserie. The horchata -- a sweet drink of rice, coconut, milk and cinnamon -- is excellent. For those who prefer a beer with fried food, try a Negra Modelo or a Pacífico. Don't let the strip mall setting fool you: This is a perfect local dive.
