The cakes, pastries, cookies and croissants made here are all masterpieces. This is a classic Euro-style cafe and bistro. It has long been a favorite of the River Oaks crowd, especially with the ladies who lunch, who enjoy the many creative salads, such as the Avocado and Tomato Caesar. There's also baguette sandwiches, fluffy breakfast omelets served all day, daily lunch specials and good coffee. The interior is decorated with the work of local artists.
I'm not here to tell you how Valentine's Day is a corporate crock, nor am I here to tell you that the only refuge of a single person on V-Day is burning a box of your past lovers' memorabilia while so... More »

The Austrians take their coffee and cake very seriously. After all, where else do they confer the honor of konditoreimeister, or master pastry chef? (Okay, Germany.) Epicure Cafe owner Khan Esmail is a native of Iran who studied in Austria and brought his knowledge and skills to Houston some 16 years ago. Everything he sells, he makes. Fine European pastries and handmade cookies have undergone even further refinements under his direction. A simple napoleon is transformed into a strawberry... More »
The problem with dining at the Epicure Café is that the well-lit case of desserts beckons during your whole meal. Sure, the lemon chicken is in fact quite lemony and generously seasoned, making your taste buds tingle. And the salads are nicely balanced. But these meals are no match for the legions of cakes, cookies and other sugary delights on display in the dessert case. How can you pay attention to chicken and wild rice when there's cappuccino raspberry cake, tiramisu, Italian cream... More »
