When you're in the mood to dine with distinction, there's no better place than Ellyngton's. Tucked into a corner of the Brown Palace, this restaurant is all old-world swank and old-school class -- a bastion of the sort of jacket-and-tie dining that's becoming rare in this fast-casual world. Prices are expensive, but the experience is worth it during those moments when kitchen, floor and wine staff hit on all cylinders together. Breakfast and lunch only, but the Sunday brunch is a real blowout, and it's a relative bargain considering the size of the spread.
The champagne just keeps flowing at the Dom Perignon Sunday Brunch, offered from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. every week in Ellyngton's, the elegant corner dining room at the Brown Palace. And the brunch buffet spread is just as sumptuous as the surroundings: There are stations that make waffles and omelets to order; stations that carve up huge haunches of meat and dish up fresh fish; salad and sushi stations; pastry stations overflowing with incredible confections. You don't get more traditional than the Brown Palace, and the Sunday brunch at Ellyngton's is a completely over-the-top version of the classic, high-society Sunday brunch. If you want to up the ante, you can go for the Dom Perignon version, which is definitely a nice way to start the day but will... More »

This restaurant in the corner of the Brown Palace is all old-world swank, old-school class and jacket-and-tie top-hat dining, and the champagne brunch on Sundays is particularly glam. The linens are soft, the silverware comfortingly heavy, and the whole room seems to drip gold when things are in full swing. From the tiered champagnes (Domaine Chandon, Moët & Chandon and Dom Perignon) and seafood nestled in ice t... More »

If you want to up the ante, you can go for the Dom Perignon version, which is definitely a nice way to start the day but will set you back nearly two hundred bucks. If you've got that kind of green to blow, though, what better way to do it than by pulling up a chair in front of mountains of jumbo shrimp, wrapping those suckers in rare slabs of prime rib, and then washing it all down with Dom drunk straight from the bottle? Top hat and monocle optional...
Best fancy brunch in town
Q: I'm very excited that my 93-year-old great aunt may visit. I'd like to find a special "old-lady" kind of place to take her. Since her hearing and eyesight aren't what they used to be, it can't be too dark or loud but it has to be nice. A:... More »
