A dozen or so taco trucks have kept San Francisco's street-food traditions alive since long before the Twitter-powered food cart craze. One of the best is El Tonayense, home of some of the city's sloppiest, most satisfying tacos, tortas, tamales, and burritos. Tomato, onion, cilantro, salsa, sour cream, guacamole, and grated cheese share tortilla space with your choice of lengua, cabeza, carne asada, pollo asado, and other meaty delicacies. Snazzier snacking options include menudo, huevos rancheros, fried snapper, and smoky, garlicky prawns. These handheld al fresco megameals are awfully good with tall cool cups of horchata, a sweet, creamy rice drink flavored with cinnamon and almonds.
