Description
Don't expect anything fancy--this is a hash house, albeit one with excellent, belly-stuffing food. Same for the humongous chandelier--which seems like it might have belonged to a previous Italian restaurant--the décor is purely functional, but it will fade from view as the montanero ("mountain climber") hits the table, including a pounded, lightly breaded beefsteak, two types of sausage, brown beans, two poached eggs, and enough white rice to stuff a pillowcase. Bring a friend. Other big feeds include a sopa de bolla buoying up one of the strangest dumplings you'll ever encounter, and, best of all, a chaulafan that offers an opulent South American take on Chinese fried rice.
