El Scorpion doesn?t take itself as seriously as other South Beach spots and thus is a cool joint to relax and let your hair down. Entrées such as carne asada and puerco pibil are tasty and priced at $20 or below. Yet best bets are the freshly mashed guacamole that comes in five variations; a vertical nachos of chips, beans, Monterey Jack and Oaxacan cheeses, and piquant pico de gallo; and tacos wrapped in thick homemade tortillas and filled with pasilla-rubbed Benton?s bacon or barbecue chicken with pickled radish or cascabel chili-glazed shrimp or barbecue tilapia... Scorpion also excels as a tequila bar, offering about 120 blue agave spirits, some aged in oak barrels, some in Bordeaux wine barrels, and many of the less exotic ones available in margaritas ? no frozen wussy stuff here, just the classic tart mix of tequila, Cointreau, and lime juice.
