One good thing about this exuberant jukebox song-and-modern-dance tribute to the legendary soul singer is that nobody tries to "do" James Brown. Instead, we have singers, such as Promise Marks, with powerhouse voices of their own, warbling... More »

Event Review: Madame President
This was a sophomoric imitation of the "West Wing" without the anticipation, intellect, and good acting chops. Basically, the play was a total yawner. Even the plot point--- about her being single and a old flame showing up to rekindle his love and she resists at first--- is so tired and boring. Which leads me to wonder how could this be written by a political female insider? I guess she missed the memo that in 2011 an-intelligent-woman-must-always-have-a significant-male-in-her-life-for-meaning (even as a president!) is irrelevant. Ugh.. this almost want me to go off and cook something! But I degress... Only the President's Mom and the Speaker of the House had any acting chops. Most of the actors kept forgetting their lines and they were not very acted like emotionaless drones. It hard to imagine where in Los Angeles with its gluttony soup of great actors looking for work we still sat through bad acting. Well at least the set looked good. IOWs this was a horribly, boring play and not worth the effort. Watch a few West Wing episodes and you'll be better off then seeing this mundane rehash of the same done a lot worse.
