This club is located in an area where you may not expect to find a large-scale night club. Inside, though, El Palenque has all the makings of a serious party joint. Every few months, the club stages an all-out fiesta, headlined by well-known Mexican bands. Thanks to radio advertising, these parties draw patrons all the way from West Palm Beach and Homestead. On a more typical weekend, DJ Turko holds down the turntables, playing bachata, salsa, and merengue on Fridays, open format on Saturdays, and primarily Mexican music on Sundays. Every night, you can expect a sexy dance contest, where the audience votes on the lady with the best moves. The winner takes home $150. Eighteen dollars buys you a bucket of five beers, and $11 will supply you with a plate of chicken wings, fried cheese, tostones and coleslaw. Cover ranges from free to $25.
After you've been to the party, the afterparty, and the hotel lobby, there's one more spot to hit: the after-hours club. There should be food, drink, women, gracious hosts, music, dancing, and a comfortable place to sit. El Palenque has all of these and more.
