Description

Local Mexican chain El Mariachi does the kind of typical Ameri-Mex and Spanish dishes you'll find at restaurants all across South Florida. That in itself would be fine (who doesn't love cheese and refried beans every now and again?) if the food quality were up to snuff. Fish tacos are promised on the menu as lightly battered pieces of tilapia inside a fresh tortilla but arrive with charred, heavily fried bricks of meat. A spicy skirt steak with savory onions, tomatoes, and peppers has a fantastic sauce but is marred with a gamy, sinewy piece of steak that wouldn't pass for chuck. Trademark rice and beans aren't much better, nor are the margaritas or the service.
