El Anatsui Recommended

  • Description

For years, the Nigerian artist El Anatsui was highly regarded for his abstract wood sculptures. But he didn’t really receive the acclaim he deserved in the mainstream until he showed his elegant metal tapestries made from flattened aluminum bottle tops at the Venice Biennale in 2007. Stitched together with copper wire, the impressive works from far away almost look like they're made of colorful flowing cloth. Now for the first time in New York, he has a solo exhibition of more than 30 of his shimmering site-specific sculptures at the Brooklyn Museum. Prepare to be dazzled.
