Eight Mile Creek, a fairly new establishment with a mix of Aussie soul and New York class, has an upstairs restaurant lit by tiny candles that offers emu carpaccio, spiced kangaroo, and oyster meat pie (the great Aussie football food). Downstairs, a spunky collection of mostly Australian bartenders serves from an extensive list of the country's wines. And on Anzac day in January, the bar pumps out Australian rock and country songs--yes, "Waltzing Matilda" has its moment--while burly expats and visiting gals gulp down pints of Foster's and South Australian semillon.
