Housed in an old firehouse and named for Los Angeles’ first movie studio, Silver Lake’s Edendale Grill is a bit of set-dressed history. Craftsman-era lighting fixtures with mica shades cast a warm, golden glow in the dining room. The Mixville bar has an original hammered-tin ceiling and firehouse doors. The kitchen serves up its own brand of culinary nostalgia for midcentury Midwestern American cooking: oysters Rockefeller, caesar salads made tableside, Green Goddess salad dressing, sand dabs, steaks and chops, even a beet-red velvet cake from the Waldorf. Despite somewhat harried service and slapdash cooking, the Edendale Grill can be a tough reservation, which indicates just how much Atwater-Echo Park-Los Feliz-Silver Lake citizens have hungered for such a fine-looking, versatile neighborhood dinner house.
Indoor/outdoor seating. Moderate. Nice.
I love this place! This old school fire station from the 20's gives it a great feel inside and out. Great patio seating in the front and in the back. I usually hang in the bar, get a few drinks and have a few apps -- the italian meatballs and good ol' fashion mac-n-cheese! Great selection of beer and wine. Always a cool place to hang out...
Awesome staff. Seriously, I LOVE a good bartender and they are great at Edendale! My friends and I favor this super tall skinny guy with black hair, we should ask him his name but we just call him the "Emo-Tender" Once on a crowded weekend night my drink tasted funny, he made me a new one, it also tasted funny, turned out it was something weird with the tonic, he went in back and changed the tonic, refused to let me pay for my drink, AND insisted he was only doing his job. Another time my friend was waiting for a drink, the bar was packed, about 5 people deep all the way around. These two girls were standing next to my pal talking, they left and instantly two more similar girls moved in while he was serving somebody else. This guy had such kick ass bartender vision that he didn't miss a beat on who was next in line to be served. I used to work in bars, and I'm not afraid to admit, I couldn't have been that sharp.
