Description

Located on Alvarado Street just north of Sunset Boulevard in Echo Park, this cozy cafe has great food and java, along with a jazzy, beatnik vibe. The daily menu ranges from breakfast specials and pastries to traditional diner fare, sandwiches and salads. For a long time, the place was called the Downbeat Cafe, but in 2012 the name was changed to Echo Lake Coffee Company after new owners took over. All ages. No cover.

    My favorite LA coffee shop, I always come here with my laptop or a notebook and blend in with the regulars working on everything from dissertations to screenplays. The coffee is great, the recent management shift has created a lovely takeaway menu including Mexican coke in glass bottles and sandwiches, and the famous peanut butter cookies are always sure to please a tough sweet tooth, plus, they have live music in the evening and art on the walls! A+++!!!!
