East Wind's move to its Uptown strip mall location makes for easy parking but does little to set the Vietnamese and sushi restaurant apart from the Tin Star across the street. Inside, thick carpet, dim lighting and white tablecloths combine for an elegant but rather generic ambience--but who needs character when you've got food like this? The sushi portions are enormous and still-quivering fresh, and the creamy curry entrees are delectable. The lunch menu offers tons of options for around $10, including soup or salad and dessert. Throw in the super-comfy chairs, and East Wind is an instant Uptown favorite.

This spot in the Quadrangle is a stylish room with linen tablecloths and napkins and fresh flowers. It's also got one of the best cheap three-course lunches in town: soup or salad, an entree and dessert for $9.95. Entrees include sushi or sashimi boxes, stir fry and big vermicelli bowls, mounded with charbroiled chicken, pork, beef or shrimp and topped with crushed peanuts and cilantro.
