Description

The Bishop Arts District chocolatier owned and operated by Katherine Clapner has a sweet gig going. Consistently heralded among the best purveyors of sweets (and awarded Best Chocolatier in our 2010 Best of Dallas® issue), this shop pushes the envelope of cocoa standards. Clapner changes the selections seasonally, offering spicy curry-flavored confections one season, a roasted beet and Texas olive oil chocolate the next. Foil-topped nibbles aren’t the only things popular here. Push pops, marshmallows and kettle corn receive endless praise. This creativity has garnered Clapner and staff’s artisanal chocolates and treats national attention.

When The End comes, some of us figure we might be greeting a large, reddish, hoofed fellow carrying a ledger marked "accounts payable." In that moment, we hope we're carrying lots of Dude, Sweet's artisan chocolates, fudges and marshmallows. Is it possible to corrupt the ultimate corrupter If anything can, it would be Dude, Sweet Chocolate's "Break Up Potion," with Breckenridge bourbon, agave syrup, Valrohna cocoa and Venezuelan dark chocolate sauce. When it looks like the jig is finally up... More »

There's tobacco in one bite and curry in another, and the white chocolate popcorn is laced with green olives. The store offers a rotating menu of Clapner's chocolate experiments, which, thanks to the generous samples handed out by the store's enthusiastic employees, can all be sampled before purchase.... • 2010 | Best Chocolatier

There is much to recommend about this Bishop Arts District chocolatier--from the truffles to the "Crack In A Box" bridge mix--but the "Chubby Nuts" are a good place to start: a mix of macadamias, soy nuts, almonds and hazelnuts, all candied, salted and covered in chocolate and powdered sugar. They're so much a staple of mad scientist-confectioner Katherine Clapner's repertoire they've even found their way into inventions like her frozen chocolate-apricot-mole Push-up Pop. Clapner...
