Located in the newly renovated Westin Hotel just off Market in SOMA, Ducca offers top-notch Italian cooking inspired by the Veneto (the region around Venice), in a formal dining room accented with Murano glass chandeliers and a lovely patio (open for lunch). Best dishes include the cichetti (Venetian bar snacks), top-notch salumi (cured meats), and assorted Italian cheeses. Pastas and secondi (meat courses) can be a little heavy. Superb desserts.
Not every day can be a dance number from Glee. Even happy-go-lucky lil' scamps like myself can wake up on the wrong side of the bed. When I arose on a recent day, the first thing I pictured was myself sitting on a fluffy white cloud, hurling... More »
After a luxurious lunch al fresco at Ducca, and a pleasant if less relaxing dinner, I felt as though I'd been at two different restaurants — and liked them both. But I was more likely to return to the first one I'd visited. Ducca is located in... More »

An al fresco lunch taken in the glamorous de Chirico-esque outdoor dining area of Ducca, the Venetian-inspired restaurant in the newly renovated Westin Hotel downtown, amounts to a mini-vacation. The broad piazza, semiscreened from busy Third Street by ornamental gates and planters, offers sunny seating on the patio or a gaily shaded terrace. There's a cityscape of towers, but also lots of eerily empty sky. As you nibble on chicheti (Venetian bar snacks such as fried anchovies, rice fritters, and salt cod crostini), pick at prosciutto served with a peach and sorrel panzanella, or sample a plate of wonderful artisanal salumi, risotto risi-bisi, or fat lamb polpettoni, while slowly sipping a chilled glass of Prosecco or a rich Dolcetto d'Alba, it's easy to forget where you are. An unexpected sense of relaxation and ease may lead you to linger over lush mascarpone panna cotta or airy ricotta cheesecake. An expertly prepared espresso may be required to prepare you to face the real world again.
Very nice restaurant. Be sure to get the Arancini small plate to start. Not sure how to describe these other to say that they are like little tater-tots made out of a cheesy risotto. Yum! This place also has a great outdoor patio bar. Get there early on warm Summer afternoons--the place fills up!
Good food. Ambiance is nice.
