Description

This cavernous beer hall offers more than 250 beers along with meat-heavy, tremendously hearty Hungarian food. Thankfully, Draft Barn's kitchen has not prettied up their food for Park Slope sensibilities. No, this is heavy, meaty, onion-and-bacon-seasoned fare. A pig's knuckle is just that, an entire hock with burnished skin, served with sauerkraut and roasted potatoes. Try the gurka (sometimes called "hurka") ground pork liver and pork, mixed with rice into a cake and pan-fried. If you're starving, you might spring for the gypsy steak, a greasy but satisfying hunk of pork shoulder, stuffed with Hungarian sausage, bacon and onions. That Hungarian sausage is also available on its own. Best bet with beer: silky pickled herring with onions, and, beer croutons -- chunks of brown bread, deep-fried and salted liberally.
