If you can figure out how to get to the West Palm location (call for directions), breakfast and lunch at this warehouse-district paninoteca are worth a few wrong turns. In addition to the Mama-style breakfast, Dolce offers excellent grilled paninis on ciabbata (Italian meats, grilled vegetables) and homemade gelato, owner Anthony de Palma's specialty. Thursday through Saturday, the place is open for dinner with an inventive, rotating menu of gourmet Italian dishes: You may find whole roast pig, blacktip shark, chicken involtini with portobella mushrooms and harissa/sundried tomato sauce, or de Palma's to-die-for gnocchi with veal sweetbread sausages. And a terrific list of Italian, German, and American wines all priced at $45 or less.
Even now that Dolce de Palma has been overrun by local hungries, anybody pulling up to this rubble-strewn parking lot behind railroad tracks in an old warehouse district is going to feel like he's making a personal discovery.
