Restaurateur Jason Hennings (Black Iron Burger Shop, the now defunct E.U.) opened this thumping carnival of a Mexican restaurant in the spring of 2010. It's lively all right; the restaurant even has a special prix fixe menu for parties of 10 or larger. The crowd of pre-partying 20-somethings come here just as much for the booze as they do for the food. Margaritas by the pitcher, an exhaustive list of top-shelf tequilas and Mexican cocktails like the michelada and Spicy Mango (Sauza Blanco, habanero and mango), plus a tiny selection of Mexican beers and Spanish wines, fuel the party. Stuff your tacos with 10 different fillings ranging from chorizo sausage to fried oysters. Entrees are equally unorthodox, including dishes like chicken in peanut mole, a croquet monsieur chimichanga and a burger topped with poblano peppers and chipotle mayo. The space has the feel of a sexy saloon, full of weathered wood, painted-over brick and glowing red lights. When it's warm outside you can take a seat in the 30-seat back garden or if you're just thirsty you can head downstairs to the bar.—Keith Wagstaff
