A Cincinnati-based chain that doesn't look, act or taste like a chain at all, Dewey's ranked as one of St. Louis' better-quality pizza joints the moment it opened its doors in downtown Kirkwood. The pizza's ruler-thin crust resembles St. Louis-style visually, but blessedly it embodies New York-style's perfect crispness. Any of the dozen specialty pies (topped with anything from workmanlike sausage and pepperoni to hippy-dippy Amish chicken and pine nuts) will prove crowd-pleasing to patrons young and old. Salads and calzones are delicious too; short lists of agreeable wines and high-end beers round out the meal nicely. A great date place, a great place to take the kids, a fine pizzeria overall.
I debated whether to include Dewey's Pizza in my list of 100 Favorite Dishes. It had nothing to do with the quality of the food. If you hadn't noticed after 71 dishes, this list has excluded chains fo... More »
In Hell, the sparkling stereo system has been assembled by Satan's sound guys, with an eye to mid-range and treble. There is no bass, and therefore no Lee Perry, no John Paul Jones, no Magic Mike. No Mingus, Neptunes or MF Doom. The guitar solos... More »
The two wisest things I've ever heard concerned work and pizza. The first I attribute to an old boss of mine, the best boss I ever had, who once said to me as we were discussing the writing life over beers, "Once you accept the fact that 98... More »
Even though everybody has been yelling at us to go into Chesterfield Valley or St. Charles next, our goal is to move back into the city from here -- we've been looking at Lafayette Square and the Central West End, as well as locations near the... More »
My daughter loves this place and house salad is fantastic!
Excellent pizza - unusual combinations.
Amazing! Best for everyday pizza and the crust is so buttery :-) There may be a wait for this delish pizza, even at 9:00pm!
A meal at Dewey's is like an afternoon spent with your college roommate's CD collection. We know. College students don't collect CDs anymore. That's the point. Dewey's music suggests a distinct personality -- someone who came of age in the 1990s, when the tunes of Ben Folds seemed edgy in a nerdy kind of way, and you could still say with a straight face that U2 was the most important band in the world. Of course you'll hear some Bob Marley. Who didn't have Legend lying around the dorm... More »
From now until our sun goes supernova, people will argue about religious leaders, politicians and pizza. This last, of course, is the most universally beloved: No one hides when pizza's at the door. And of all the magnificent thin-crust pies in St. Louis -- Pizza-a-Go-Go and Vito's are also on our speed-dial -- none delights quite as much as our outpost of Cincinnati-based mini-chain Dewey's. Everything about this Kirkwood parlor is right-on, from the on-tap microbrews to the adorable... More »
