CatCalls2010 Desert Breeze Railroad Is a Happy Treat I wish I could rate these guys higher! Desert Breeze Railroad is in Desert Breeze Park. It is the niftiest, most memorable bonus to a park that is already beautiful, clean, offers a zillion things to do and brings only joyous memories for me. The train runs around most of the park and gives a great view of people fishing (check my photos....I caught THAT fish at Desert Breeze Park), kids playing on well designed play equipment, a long view to the tennis courts, the volleyball pit, the weather protected huge gazebo and the sprinkler animals (totally cool!).....the list goes on. The train and the carousal are privately owned and operated. I thought the price was a little steep at first and then talked to the workers. After listening to them, I don't begrudge them a $3. charge for the train or the $2. charge for the merry go round. Think about it! You'll spend $4. on a cup of coffee that you won't remember tomorrow. For a total of five bucks, you've created a memory that will last beyond forever. I've been riding the train since the park opened. I took my kids when they were small. Of late, I've been taking the neighbor kids. It's a five dollar investment into a lifelong memory. My kids (now grown) still talk about the train, especially the "Christmas" train, when they cover the trees in the park with lights and give night rides! Desert Breeze is a gem. On a spring day, it looks like a post card! The lake, the train, the families having fun, and every once in a while an old bi-plane from Stellar Airpark flies past. And, of late the park can boast a HERON. Yes, the stork has landed. He sits at the waters edge and waits for a trout. His wingspan is so huge, the first night I saw him, I thought there was a teredactyl flying around. Overall, the train, the merry go round, and the refreshment stand offered are marvelous. (Honestly, I wish I could tell the Railroad people THANKYOU.) The DBRR and DB park are gifts to the community of Chandler. Clean, safe (I fish and walk at night), beautiful, updated regularly, with clean bathrooms and a humming bird and butterfly area boasting a copper tree. This cat calls Desert Breeze Railroad and DB Park pure and absolute joy!
An outdoor picnic in the dead of summer?Hot damn!First, pack a picnic lunch with lots of cold beverages. Then suit up the kids in their swimming gear, grab the sunscreen and head for Desert Breeze Park. Ignore the lovely lake surrounded by trees and picnic tables. Instead, head to the children's playground area. Beneath an earthen berm/overpass/observation deck are an assortment of shaded tables. This covered passageway connects a traditional playground with a "spray pad" where... More »
