Description

Der Schwarze Kolner ("The Black Person From Cologne, Germany") is a German-Czech beer garden, even though the garden part is not yet happening. The extensively windowed premises enjoy a splendid view of Flatbush Avenue, and the extensive collection of beers - 18 taps and 18 bottles - is more reasonably priced than you had any reason to suspect. The eats menu is rudimentary in the extreme, which is how it should be in a beer garden: a couple of steamed sausages served in a bun with sauerkraut and grainy mustard (priced at $4!), a delicious soft pretzel, a cheese sandwich, and a cheese spread--though more snacks may be added from time to time. Our only reservation about this rollicking place is the ultra-high noise levels at peak hours.
