Along the stretch of Colfax where Denver begins to give way to Aurora, a motley collection of strip malls, repurposed gas stations and shabby storefronts house an equally diverse collection of culinary experiences. In their midst sits Taco Mex, an immaculately painted red-and-white box that looks like it might once have been a fast-food outlet, though block lettering on the windows proclaim that it now sells tortas, tacos and gorditas. Inside, kids dart between plastic furnishings and Our Lady of Guadalupe candle-flanked shrines. But the real draw is outside, where a crowd chats in Spanish with the crew manning a patched-together outdoor kitchen: a flat-top grill, a steam table, a massive vat of orange grease swimming with brisket and sausage, a rotisserie and a miniature salsa bar, all crammed into the six-foot-by-six-foot space. A beehive-shaped mass of chile-rubbed pork, dripping with grease and topped with chunks of pineapple that leak juice all over the meat, is turning on the spit. It's for tacos al pastor, slow-cooked the traditional way -- a rarity in this city because of the space and time required. Although the streetside tacos are the stars here, Taco Mex also serves up a range of Mexican food with no particular regional focus, including everything from chiles rellenos to menudo to excellent breakfast burritos.

On sunday december 02 2012 my wife was having a craving since it was 1.30 in the morning not alot of places are open but this place was so we decided to go eat there, we tried the tacos before and they were good but this time we decided to try something different a large shrimp cocktail and a enchilada platter. when my wife made the order she told the cashier that she only wanted two enchilada but the cashier insisted in having the whole platter so we ordered a whole platter. she asked us if we wanted to order aguas frescas but we requested if it was possible to try a sample before we purchased a aguas frescas, she rolled her eyes and gave the sample but we decided not to order it because it has to much sugar. we asked her if we could have a cup of water but she charged us a bottle water the grand total was 18.56$ we tipped the change.. as we seat down there was a cockroaches on the wall so we changed seats the food is deliverd to your seat.. I only ate the shrimp from the scrimp cocktail as the rest of the ingredients gave a watery sour tasteless taste. My wife only had one bite of her enchilada and decided not to eat the rest. she kindly when to the cashier and asked for the enchilada money back which is 7.99 the cashier brocke out and basically scream at my wife telling her that she refused to give the money back because she is only sampeling the food and she return back to attend other custumer.. this is not true my wife is 6 months pregnant does she really expect my wife to eat something that can get her sick?. she was having a craving and this rude cashier made us never whant to go to this place again. this is indeed the worses places i even been too and before you make a order go to the bathroom and take a look around yourself they have no toilet paper or maintenance there was urine spots all over the floor it smells bad the garbage is overflotting the doors don't shut and is only a few feet away from the kitchen
