Description

Westword's Description

A downtown landmark since 1933, El Chapultepec is the swinging home to Denver's finest jazz and R&B artists, who command the stage in the tiny club seven nights a week. Though the 'Pec is most celebrated for its music, the food is well worth a visit. With American grub and traditional Mexican dishes that beg to be smothered in cheese and green chile, El Chapultepec is a classic choice for a weekday lunch or a burrito fix during a night on the town. Spicy, cheesy and inexpensive, the 'Pec's food does the trick on a rough morning after, too. The music leans to the traditional, and so do the tastes of purists who show up to listen in this dim, vintage gem.

historic, small and charming, just a great experience with live music pretty much every night. any place that was good enough for Sinatra is plenty good with me

My mom was visiting from out of town - We get a long great and she's rather hip, so I wanted to take her someplace that we could enjoy some live music. I asked a bartender where the best place to hear live Jazz was - He instantly gave me directions to El-Chapultepec. We loved every minute of the amazing music, cash bar, and eclectic crowd.

Burritos and Jazz baby! Actually, don't eat the burritos but the jazz is always incredible. Love this great Denver dive!

Congratulations, you've found one of Esquire's Best Bars in America. Get a Bud and a shot of Jack at 8:45, right before the jazz starts. Come 90 minutes earlier if you want to sit at a table.

The El has been around since 1933. This tiny place - with neon beer signs, a stage the size of a half dollar, and vinyl banquettes - hosts local acts AND stars like Sinatra, Fitzgerald and Jagger.
