Description

Westword's Description

The wait is usually long for weekend brunch at Devil's Food Bakery & Cookery, but at least there's plenty to look at. The place feels like the house of a friend who spends all of her free time finding knickknacks and eclectic art at local thrift shops (and who probably lives in Wash Park, just like the eatery). While the red walls may have a few chips and the chairs may wobble a bit, rather than feeling disheveled, Devil’s Food feels welcoming. You get the sense that life happens here, which is why you’re equally likely to find college kids, tots eating Cheerios from a baggie and friends out for lunch around the tables on the tiny back patio or in the cozy dining room -- not to mention folks dropping in for a bracing cup of coffee and a palmier or magic bar to go. Such a laid-back atmosphere is to be expected at bakeries, which is how Devil’s Food got its start in 1999. It’s also par for the course at breakfast, lunch and brunch spots, which is what Devil’s Food grew into after five years. Devil’s Food now serves dinner, too – but calls it supper, which reflects the down-home fare featured here, everything from chicken and waffles to pot pie to shrimp and grits.

It has an artsy feel with also feeling like you would be eating where your mom lives... Great Breakfast located near Wash Park on Gaylord St.

The brunch and atmosphere at Devil's Food is great. The menu is unique just like the cute wash park neighborhood. The dishes that you think you've had like eggs benedict or oatmeal are transformed and dare I say... way tastier. Plus if it's nice out there is a small patio outside thats perfect.

They cannot be beat. Devil’s Food’s eggs benedict are top of the town once again.

All pastries made in house and good espresso in a city of bad espresso

Take advantage of the new back patio on a nice day outside.
