Only in New York: An ancient Jewish deli in Bed-Stuy is taken over by Muslim owners, who keep the traditions alive. David's was a long running deli specializing in permutations of brisket that closed for nearly a year not too long ago, and we thought the place was doomed. Now it's reopened, and is better than ever. There's a narrow lunch counter that few take advantage of, but a long line forms for carryout every day. Available in three sizes, the roast brisket with gravy is the sandwich to get, but the corned beef is also formidable. We're not as fond of the pastrami, but many swear by it. A tip of the hat to Sultan and Waleed--the proprietors--for keeping the standards of this wonderful place high.
