Description

Those people who claim the University of Washington lacks a consistently great bar within walking distance of campus-and there are many-have never been to Dante's. A self-proclaimed "U-District Tradition since 1966," the bar's air hockey, pinball and pool tables skirt a massive dance floor, overlooked by a DJ booth that's always spinning something good. Ted Bundy used to party here, a fact that the bar celebrates with a wall full of clippings near its entrance. The cavernous, medieval-looking bar also dedicates an entire room to Dante's Inferno-themed mementos. Dante's kitchen seems to consist of nothing more than a deep-fat fryer, and is the sort of place a newly-minted 21-year-old can "puke and rally" with impunity. After midterms it's not unusual to find a throng of engineering students on the bar's upper level ringing in the occasion with a round of boat races. Not boat races with mere cups of beer, but boat races in which each racer must consume an entire pitcher by his lonesome. That's hardcore. That's college. That's Dante's.

    Event Review: Dante's

    | Fri, January 13, 2012

Actually...karaoke ALSO happens here on Wednesdays@9pm 'til close!! KJ Rio of Absolute Karaoke hosts a totally wild show, complete with climbing on the furniture, jumping off of speaker cabinets, etc. "It's all part of my rock-n-roll fantasy!!" Great lower level 'stage' area w/a GIANT screen projecting lyrics & videos, a stripper pole and a disco ball. Like a giant, fun, 'bring all your friends' atmosphere, it's the most you've had at karaoke...TRUST ME. $2 well and $3 jello syringes, revolving weekly drink specials (Tall Long Islands for $6...really??? Wow.) 3 levels to this place including pool tables, air hockey, video games, and the kitchen cranking out seriously yummy food on the cheap until 12mid. Largest karaoke selection you'll find in WA with over 100,000 songs to choose from with constant updates of all-new music hot off the presses! Come on down and get your inner rockstar on! You'll be so glad you did and the stories will be legendary...

Those people who claim the University of Washington lacks a consistently great bar within walking distance of campus—and there are many—have never been to Dante's. For one, Ted Bundy used to party here, a fact that the bar celebrates with a wall full of clippings near its entrance. The cavernous, medieval-looking bar also dedicates an entire room to Dante's Inferno–themed mementos. Dante's kitchen seems to consist of nothing more than a deep-fat fryer, its waitstaff is very young, and customers don't come here for a leisurely nightcap—they come here to get hammered. It's the sort of place a newly-minted 21-year-old can "puke and rally" with impunity, and after midterms it's not unusual to find a throng of engineering students on the bar's upper level ringing in the occasion with a round of boat races. Not boat races with mere cups of beer, but boat races in which each racer must consume an entire pitcher by his lonesome. That's hardcore. That's college. That's Dante's.—Mike Seely
