If you want to excel at something, it’s best to focus on a few specialties. That's exactly what owner Elvira Leal did when her husband was fighting in World War II. Only now she does it at the main Dallas Tortilla & Tamale Factory location, as well as its two progeny. The standard tamale options, such as pork and chicken, are represented. For those in search of a little adventure in their cornhusks, Leal has new varieties (for example, spinach and feta cheese or the poblano chile and monterrey jack cheese). Homemade tortillas fly off the presses. Thirty corn or one dozen flour tortillas will only set you back $1.50. On weekends, wrap the flatbread around the house specialty meats, like barbacoa or chicharrones.
