Description

Dallas Observer's Description

CLOSED-Clean is the scene at these no-frills Mex-food spots. White tables, scrubbed floors, shiny counters. And clean food--no lard, no gobs of yellow cheese. Our fave is the taco y mas, a plate with a slim quesadilla, papery flauta, enchilada and taco (beef, chicken or bean). Gorditas are thick little corn cakes spread lightly with black beans, chunks of chicken and a mound of dark greens sprinkled with balsamic vinegar. Sides include a piquant corn salad and juicy new potatoes. The salsa bar features three good sauces (try the green), chopped veggies and bowls of cilantro leaves and lime wedges. Regulars at the SMU location know to order the burger with freshly cut fried potato wedges. With icy peach tea, it's big-time yum.
