  • True story: Five middle-aged guys from Utah have managed to become a real live touring act after they covered One Direction with a piano and deconstructed cello. Thanks, YouTube! Known as The Piano Guys (though only one plays the piano), they offer a special brand of classically tweaked pop songs and original tunes. The recipe has landed them sold-out venues worldwide, and (you guessed...

  • Design District gastropub The Meddlesome Moth (1621 Oak Lawn Ave.) is kicking off spring in an indulgent fashion with Art, Small Bites & Brews: A Night of Pairings. Beer is the star of the night, and brew nerds should be especially happy to know Deschutes Brewery will have some of their less-tasted taps on hand (like the Hop Henge Experimental IPA), paired with some of the Moth’s...

  • Unlike your eighth-grade guidance counselor, Deschutes Brewery actually believes in you. Or at least it believes you can drink beer and play oversized games. It’s the Beer Olympics, after all. Also known as an evening where you get to try a kegload of new beers and play all your favorites, like Skeeball, Giant Jenga, Giant Connect Four and even a video game or...

    04/28/13

If you're unfamiliar with Hard Eight, let me give you a brief rundown of the process. When you walk in, you go straight up to the pit (well, after about a 30 minute wait in line). You order your assorted meats by the pound, or fraction thereof. They weigh everything and slap a barcoded sticker on your tray. Once you're finished there, grab your grub and head...

    04/25/13

This place is decorated like a western antique store: wagon wheels, old tools, and the like. Apparently they also sell farm fresh brown eggs here. My grandparents would love it...

I decided on a 2 Meat Combination Plate with brisket and pork ribs. The sides are self-serve, so I helped myself to pinto beans and potato salad.

    The beans had a...

  • TheBarbecueFiend TheBarbecueFiend wrote a review for Bill's BBQ

    04/23/13

Calling Bill's a "hole in the wall" is an understatement. The dining room, if you can call it that, was comprised of a half-dozen crummy tables and even crummier chairs. The walls were completely bare, with the exception of a window unit air conditioner and a small TV from the late 80s. There wasn't anything welcoming about this place, inside or out.
