Before they were famous for having John Lennon shot outside of them, the Dakota Apartments were known for being the cityas first luxury-apartment house. Arguably the most prestigious address on the Upper West Side, the 125-year old building was built with servantas quarters, a gym, and a playroom for the kiddies. In the park across from the building is a small memorial to John Lennon, called aStrawberry Fields." A simple mosaic, made in Pompeii, bears the word aImagine."
