This historic Delray Beach house has over the years become South Florida's de facto hangout for the hip, the eclectic, the tattooed, and the wacky. Its nightly live music, entertainment, magic shows, and psychic blowouts are upstaged only by the place's almost supernal level of texture. From the gravel-lined front yard with tiki torches and tree-house-inspired tables to the Dali-esque artwork hanging on the old plaster walls, Dada is thick with visual flavor. What comes out of the kitchen is less inspiring. Caprese salad, bluefin tuna tartare, grilled Brie, meat loaf -- much of the menu reads like it's stuck in the '90s. Nightly specials veer north of $30 and include the same mashed potatoes and vegetable that accompanies every plate. Still, the hand-muddled mojitos are killer, and the scene is still a blast after all these years.

Event Review: Hymn For Her
Although they have not yet played at DaDa's this is a band that should not be missed. I first heard them play 2 summers ago at a few festivals in PA. They were wonderful and the songs they sing are meaningful and heart-felt.
This wood-slat house, built in 1924, is such a throwback to old Florida that if it weren't for the sleek, artsy crowd sucking down cocktails and munching eclectic fare on its immense front porch, you might swear Dada was actually your Aunt Velma's country cottage, with tables occupying what should be a yard with chickens scratching in the dirt beneath a high canopy of ancient trees. Thank you, Dada, for having the foresight to preserve and smartly update a slice of South Florida's dwindling southern charm. Such a delightful place deserves an enlightened menu, and Dada has it: creative vegetarian dishes like mango gazpacho and black bean-chick pea wontons next to fanciful twists on bistro staples like salmon, served here with a habanero maple glaze. Plus the prices are — gasp! — accessible.
A hip and charming restaurant located in Downtown Delray. Inspired by the Dada cultural movement, the decor in this place is like none you will find elsewhere. The menu is well thought out and usually delish (although I have had some misses). During snowbird season you definitely need to make a reservation on weekends.

Excuse me, sir, but I noticed you're at Dada at least once a week, and I have to ask: What is it that brings you back so often? Is it the dinner menu? The fine wine? The arty ambiance? "Uh, yeah, that's nice and all. But..." Oh, right -- it's the live music. Saturday is an especially happening night. "No, it's the..." Wait staff! I knew it. They're very personable. It's almost like they're hanging out with you. "Dude, you're not listening. I like all those things. But, well, just look over... More »
The excitement of watching a live band tear it up in someone's cozy living room is usually isolated to hazy, half-remembered high-school nostalgia. But the owners of Dada, a renovated quasi-Victorian home that serves as a restaurant/bar/performance space, have been taking their ginkgo biloba and remember that intimacy with perfect clarity. It's not a bad place for a preshow nosh session, either: the baked brie is more addictive than crack. This well-appointed portal to bohemia in downtown... More »
Every Tuesday at 10:30 p.m., culture high and low meets and makes out at Marya Summers's poetry slams. Among our favorite parts is lap poetry, the perfect expression of slammistress Summers's sophisticated appreciation of the South Florida sleaze factor. The décor and the crowd at this restaurant, lounge, and coffeehouse are about as cool as things get -- the retro-chic décor reflects the same arch sensibility that co-proprietor Rodney Mayo (who also owns Respectable Street)... Yeah, something deep -- Dadaism, the nihilistic art movement that gave rise to surrealism -- inspired Dada, an artsy Delray Beach coffeehouse/restaurant. But if you're a washed-up ex-hippie who chose protesting the Vietnam War over art history class, Dada represents a generation's journey from dropping acid to buying stock. With bulbous ants painted on the walls, crisp velvet lamp shades, and framed Dalíesque paintings, the place looks as if its owner had a few acid trips and then got... More »
