Among people who love real-deal Vietnamese food, Da Vang has quite the following. It's been around for 18 years and is owned by the Ly family. The vibe is friendly and seat-yourself casual, and service is swift. With 79 items, the menu seems sprawling, but just look at the common denominators: plenty of pork, seafood, and beef. Sometimes it's just a question of what you prefer to eat them with. Egg noodles or rice noodles? Rice paper or steamed rice? Highlights include the barbecued pork and shrimp dishes, the seafood hot pot, and the pho, a bowl of beefy broth, chewy rice noodles, onions, scallions, cilantro, and various cuts of meat. And then there are the sandwiches - at two bucks apiece, they're a jaw-dropping steal.
There are few things more comforting than a big bowl of soup on a cold(ish) winter night. The great thing about pho (pronounced like fuh, not foh fo' the n00bz) is that you don't have to sacrifice fla... More »
Affordable, mostly healthy, and not "too weird" for most American palates, Vietnamese food is easy to enjoy. But if you don't plan on using the sauces and condiments on the table, you're missing out o... More »
Ahhhh, the banh mi. Such a tasty and cheap little Vietnamese sandwich. Soft French bread filled with carrots, jalapenos, cilantro, and a delightful meat. It's one of our favorites, but we tend to ov... More »
A lot of excitement about the Metro light rail has revolved around the easy new connection between downtown Phoenix and downtown Tempe. And when it comes to dining options, that's definitely a good thing, whether you're a commuter, a student, or... More »
My natural instinct is to haul ass on the highway, but lately I've been hyper-miling in my econo-car. Around my neighborhood, I've been riding my beach cruiser. Several of my coolest new wardrobe additions have come from the Goodwill. And instead... More »
This place is more than a coffee shop - My friend took me here for some really delicious pho! Highly recommended
It can feel overwhelming to peruse Da Vang's menu for the first time -- so many choices, so little time. (Thank goodness it's numbered!) But don't worry, because everything at this humble hole-in-the-wall is just what you're craving if you love authentic Vietnamese eats. Sip on a refreshing da chanh (limeade) or a jolt-inducing ca phe sua da (iced coffee with condensed milk), and enjoy a generous, steaming bowl of pho chock full of sliced beef, brisket, tendon, tripe, and tender rice... The menu at Da Vang, our favorite low-key hole in the wall for a cheap, filling meal, is so sprawling that it means only one thing to us: indecision. Should we slurp up a big, steaming bowl of the fabulous pho Da Vang, with thinly sliced beef, brisket, tripe, tendon, onions, and chewy rice noodles in heady beef broth? We crave that pretty often. But then again, there are those excellent stir-fry dishes, like the egg noodles with tofu, as well as summery bun, with barbecued meat or shrimp... More »
Got a hankering for some truly authentic Vietnamese food? Da Vang's got the real thang. On a chilly winter day, we'll go with pho (a steaming bowl of beefy rice noodle soup) or one of countless filling stir-fry dishes. And during the summer, we'll start with the obvious -- hello, summer rolls! -- and then move on to some bun (cool rice noodles topped with barbecued pork, fried spring rolls, or shrimp) or a hot-off-the-griddle banh xeo (pork and shrimp crepe with sprouts) wrapped in fre...
