Years ago, we numbered Da Andrea among the 100 best cheap eateries in town. Back then it was located in the West Village on Hudson Street, and was considered one of the best date spots in town for couples of every sexual persuasion. Now, after a long hiatus, the restaurant has relocated near Union Square, and the new constituency is students and their parents. Though not as cheap as previously, the restaurant"s best dishes remain intact, including a wonderful warm octopus salad with capers and basil oil, a rich homemade spaghetti with Bolognese sauce, and, best of all, a giant pot of steamed mussels in a tomato-wine broth so rich and tasty, you"ll find yourself drinking it after the shellfish are gone.
