Keegan Gerhard has earned his place as a celebrity chef. Before the TV shows, before the stand-up hosting duties for Food Network, he spent years working as a cook and patissier in some of the best kitchens in America. In the summer of 2008, he and his wife, Lisa Bailey, opened D Bar right here in Denver, where they started serving up amazing desserts. But they do much more at D Bar, adding such items as salads and sandwiches to a simple board called "Things We Like to Eat," as well as liquor. So today D Bar is a great place to both begin and end a night.
During this snowy spring, it often feels like we have one foot out the door to summer, and one still back by the fire, sticking loyally to our favorite winter comfort foods. As with fans of grilled ch... More »
Which came first, the chicken or the waffle? There may be a lot of disagreement about how this dish came about, but almost everyone agrees that this unusual combination of sweet and savory is deliciou... More »
Odds are good that "chicken" isn't the first thing most people think of when they consider a sandwich. After all, there are so many other kinds of sammies that get higher billing: pastrami and Italian... More »
Washington State wants to donate forty pounds of cherries to an "iconic" restaurant in every state in the nation, in hopes of inspiring recipes that push its product. A Washington PR company asked for... More »
Lisa Bailey and Keegan Gerhard have looked at several locations around town where they could put a second location of D Bar Desserts, the spot they opened on East 17th Avenue back in 2008. And now th... More »
Dessert king Keegan Gerhard is renowned for his sensational sugar sensations, but his savory creations are just as inspiring -- starting with the crue fries, an irresponsible mound of Parmesan-dusted thin potato strips buried under a rich cheese sauce that in and of itself has the ability to take over its victims' veins like a heroin injection. But Gerhard doesn't stop there: He covers the heap with melted Jack and cheddar, crumbles of smoky bacon, snips of chives and zigzags of... More »
You would think that D Bar Desserts, the dessert bar that Food Network star Keegan Gerhard and his wife, Lisa Bailey, brought to Denver almost two years ago, offers enough of a sugar rush just with the incredible desserts and other goodies on offer; the crowds that pack this little joint certainly come away satisfied. But late on weekend nights, if you time things right, you might find a very special special: Brown Sugar Shenanigans, when Jay Brown comes out of the kitchen and offers a dirty... More »
D Bar Desserts is a dessert bar, but it's also an excellent snack bar, with a cool little menu simply called "Things We Like to Eat" offering such delicious diversions as dressed avocado and dates and bacon. After working your way through this menu (and maybe a glass of wine or two), you'll definitely want something sweet to finish off the night. Something from behind the bakery counter might be nice, or a freshly made cookie, or perhaps one of chef/owner Keegan Gerhard's more whimsical... More »
Baked to order cookies and an ice cream sandwich made with waffles, I can never decide so I get them both. Love this place!
Something from behind the bakery counter might be nice, or a freshly made cookie, or perhaps one of chef/owner Keegan Gerhard's more whimsical digressions on a standard dessert. Gerhard may be a bona fide food-world celebrity, but he spends every night working at D Bar — and that hits our sweet spot.
Little delicacies: perfect for a wedding shower, baby shower, or any special occasion.
