Description

The building that houses the Curtis Park Creamery was a meat processor and taxidermy shop in the early ’50s. Later in the decade, it got a rep for giving soft-serve ice cream to the kids playing across the street in Curtis Park -- and got a new name in the process. After a few ownership hand-offs, the Rodriguez family purchased the Creamery in 1969, and they've been cranking out Mexican favorites there ever since. That's right: The only cream you're liable to ingest at this joint today is of the sour variety. A dizzying array of choices and prices are listed on the menu posted on the wall: burritos, tacos, enchiladas, tamales and even menudo, with breakfast burritos served on weekday mornings. Both the red and green chile are made in-house; in a switch from what you’ll find at most Mexican joints in this town, the red is both hotter and more complex than the green. Drop in, grab a combo or two for lunch, and enjoy them on the green expanse of Mestizo Park, just a few feet away.
