This cafeteria-style Indian spot sticks out from the rest of the Southeast Asian eateries on the “Curry Hill” strip of Lexington Avenue with its retro neon sign. Nestled in the crook of Kips Bay and Murray Hill, Curry in a Hurry has long been a go-to spot for quick, tasty Indian-restaurant staples like meaty tandoori, biriyani, and curry dishes as well as chicken tikka masala. The pair of veggie samosas are a popular bargain snack, and while the cuisine is mostly North-Indian, South-Indian dosas appear on the menu and there are plenty of vegetarian options. Curry in a Hurry is inexpensive, open late, and the efficient, friendly staff makes take-out a breeze. However, if you want a place to sit down and eat, take your plastic tray of food upstairs to the divey but pleasant dining room. There you can dress up your dish from the help-yourself chutney bar, which includes the sweet rice treat kheer for those who need to take the edge off the spice. --Alex Spoto
No better quick snack exists than a bargain pair of samosas from Curry in a Hurry, a Curry Hill stalwart that still slings some excellent grub from diverse regions of India. The samosas are stuffed with potatoes and the occasional pea, and you can get them with either tamarind or cilantro-and-green-onion sauce.
My favorite Indian restaurant in the neighborhood.

Hey, I love Curry in a Hurry, and not just for the name. The second-floor dining room is kinda elegant, and boasts the city's first chutney bar, with unlimited soupy rice pudding. And the food downstairs is several notches above OK. Particularly good are the masala dosa, goat curry, chicken tikka, or any of the vegetarian curries. More »
