It's hot, loud, and way too crowded. But would you expect anything less from a rock club? The Culture Room books an eclectic mix of bands. On any given week they might have David Allan Coe, the Misfits, Johnny Winter, a local group of hardcore rockers, and northern Europe's meanest-sounding death metal makers. What sets the Culture Room apart from the other hot and sweaty clubs around, though, isn't necessarily what goes on atop the large stage; it's the nice, refreshing atmosphere just outside the main concert room. If you don't care so much about seeing your favorite rock stars up close, in the flesh, you can still rock out a few feet away, under the beautiful Florida sky — and watch a video projection of the show while you sip a beer. Or if you're really hardcore, as you pound Jägermeister and break the bottle over your own head.
The four-piece reggae band from Orlando will perform live this Friday at the Culture Room in Fort Lauderdale.
There's live music. And then there's everything else. Only the birth of a child, they say, can trump the wave of emotions that floods a music fan when his favorite band takes the stage. And for most... More »

It has been said that no matter what flavor of heavy metal you prefer or what band you're most attached to, there is a Swedish group out there that does it better. For fans of progressive metal, Sto... More »

Name a concert and they have it. Every tour stops by the culture room, and its not as packed as Downtown Fort Lauderdale
Small venue that packs a punch! Super up close and personal with your favorite bands will surely make that night unforgettable. I've seen plenty of shows from Gogol Bordello, Tegan and Sara, Eisley, to Amanda Palmer, all great performance with lots of energy.

Could there really be any other choice? For almost a decade, the husband-and-wife rock-star team of Greg and Sharon Alliferis has run this midsized venue as if it were a major-league ballroom. They regularly pack the house for big names and offer a solid sound system and friendly service to smaller fries, both important elements in creating a buzzworthy club. In 2005, though, they really honed their focus and put together a consistently eclectic, exciting roster of shows, including the... More »
Q: Do you watch reality-television shows? A: I personally don't watch a lot, but I've had some firsthand experience with it. Q: You were a Survivor contestant? A: No, VH1 filmed a 14-part series called Band on the Run in 2000, and the finals ended up here [at the Culture Room]. They were in the club for three days, filming virtually everything that happened. They'd just follow you around with cameras. It's a very strange feeling after a while. By the last day, the band members... More »
Any South Florida live-music club not saturated with sticky, sucky cover bands automatically gets bumped ahead in line. And at the very front of that line, muscling past the chrome-domed bouncer manning the velvet rope gauntlet, is the Culture Room. Yeah, the Culture Room's competition became a tad jealous of its supremacy and the loyalty showed it by local fans and rock bands alike -- and waged a tepid little turf war that went absolutely nowhere. The Room survived, emerging from the chaos... More »
Sometimes, it's hard to profess love for the Culture Room because, well, it's a Fort Lauderdale institution, which usually means a place is tacky. But that's exactly why we love the Room, a '70s throwback that nonetheless hosts a never-ending procession of local and national acts -- more than any other live music venue in the area, come to think of it. The retro point of view manifests itself with a wide assortment of bands from the hard-rock side of the spectrum, but what makes the Culture... More »
The Culture Room takes this one almost by default because of the scarcity of rock clubs in the region. Major props go to the Culture Room for putting on its twice-weekly local band nights (Wednesday and Saturday) when few other clubs seem interested in artists with actual instruments. The space itself wins points also; the dance floor makes for an extremely spacious and accommodating stage, with the balcony-bar area upstairs providing a bird's-eye view of the bands. Decorated with the... More »
