Our favorite place in the city to score hot dogs is a subterranean lair that offers a broad range of toppings and some beguiling pre-set topping combinations. Our favorite is the spicy redneck; (wrapped with bacon, plus chili, cole slaw, and jalapenos), but weenie fundamentalists will head for the plain New Yorker (grilled) or the Crif Dog (deep fried, a la Clifton, NJ's sainted Rutt's Hut). Frank innovation proceeds apace: the trendy Crif Dog Bar next door offers weenies invented by superchefs David Chang and Wylie Dufresne, in addition to the regular roster of tube steaks, if you can only figure out how to get in.
This was a easy round. Mike Winston guessed it: it was a spicy redneck and a chihuahua from Crif Dogs at the East Village location --- not Williamsburg. Close though. Crif Dogs is a great late nigh... More »

Some of the best specialty and gourmet hot dogs I've ever had. I Highly recommend the Tsunami.
Soooooo gooooooooood
Any time, any dog. Cheap, easy, filling.
From one of our favorite food-related websites-- www.celebrities-eating.com--we learned that Nicole's favorite food is the amazingly phallic hot dog. And you can't get better weenies anywhere than Crif Dogs, where the logo of a scantily clad gal riding a hot dog might be mistaken for Miss Richie herself. But damned if we could decide which one to get her! Should it be the temptee dog (with a schmear of cream cheese), the chihuahua (bacon, avocado, and sour cream), or the tsunami... More »
East Village bong sessions necessitate munchie stops at CRIF DOGS, where stoners scarf down thick chocolate shakes, sloppy chili-cheese fries, and the eponymous fried franks. The only thing that's been missing is beer, and they've finally remedied that with icy Bud. For $5.50, you can enjoy two dogs and a cold can at one of their little picnic tables, and it's like Long Island without the assholes. More »
Can't resist hot dogs for breakfast but want to avoid the embarrassment of gobbling them before noon? CRIF DOGS features a ballpark frank wrapped with bacon, deep-fried, and then deposited on a bun with a fried egg and melted cheese. It's called "Good Morning." More »
