With Quince's Michelin star securely transferred to the restaurant's palatial second home, owners Michael and Lindsay Tusk have opened Cotogna next door, a casual(ish) place offering flocks of appetizers and vegetable sides, scaled-down pastas, and a wood-fired oven, rotisserie, and grill. The box-shaped space translates warehouse into farmhouse, with exposed brick walls, striated woods, and lights that preserve everyone in liquid amber. Cotogna beautifully translates everything that is so refined about Quince into classic California simplicity. That includes Tusk's ethereal pastas, many of them coated in oven-braised meat ragus, and grilled meats bathed in wood smoke. An innovative prix-fixe wine list, pulled almost exclusively from the northern half of Italy, lets diners be guided by pairing rather than price.
