Park Slope has slowly grown into one of the key food destinations in Brooklyn, and Convivium Osteria has been a key player in that transformation. While many of Fifth Avenue's offerings are in line with what's to be expected in Brooklyn (casual, affordable), Convivium Osteria defies such restraint and offers luxurious dishes at Manhattanite prices. Roasted quail, roasted ribeye for two, whole seabass, and braised rabbit are the highlights of a very solid seasonal menu, and there's octopus and polenta, too. Reservations are a must, even late at night, as the relatively small space is always buzzing. The atmosphere is unapologetically romantic, heavy on anniversary accents and blurry-dim lighting, but the astute (yet welcome) wait staff--along with the impressive quality of the wine list--makes Covivium Osteria a pretty safe bet for a special occasion on Fifth Avenue. --Shane Barnes
