Description

This is the linchpin of "The Island" off Main, catering to every roots, rockabilly and country soul in town. Most any day of the week, one can walk in and plop down at the bar and unwind with the help of a cold Lone Star, great company, and some local music. If the Continental Club doesn't make your Texas heart jump just a little inside your chest, then you are doing something wrong. Also be sure to check out the Pachinko Hut out back when the weather is just right, manned by bartender Big E, who is also playing great B-movies in the background.

Event Review: Twenty Mondays, The Dead Links, Lee Alexander

Live, Sept 22nd,Twenty Mondays will be headlining at The Continental Club. Signed to Spindletop Records, a big indie label out of LA, they recorded with Chad Smith of The Red Hot Chili Peppers, along with Jeff Porcaro from Toto. At the time Twenty Mondays didn't have a working drummer, so they "helped out".
The record was produced by Garth Richardson, who produced Rage Against The Machine's first record. TM was comparable to bands like Talk Talk, INXS and Duran Duran.

Home grown alternative pop band, Twenty Mondays, will be celebrating the 20 Year Anniversary of the release of their album "The Twist Inside".
It has been almost 19 years since the original line up has performed together on stage. Tickets are $12 at the door, $10 advance. Show time 9:30pm
With Special Guests: Lee Alexander 8:30pm, and The Dead Links (Scott Ayers (formerly of The Pain Teens) NEW project) 11:30pm
    Doors open at 8pm
    Saturday, September 22nd

  • 2009 | Best Concert Food

If they even offer food at all, most Houston music venues couldn't care less about how that food actually tastes. And true, most people who need something to snack on while watching a band are more interested in soaking up all that booze than in any kind of fine-dining experience. But anyone who's sampled the fare at Adam and Lena Fisher's barbecue stand in the Continental Club knows the two need not be mutually exclusive. Always on weekends, and usually during the Continental's bigger... More »

  • 2008 | Best Club for Local Acts

Houston has an oddly schizophrenic relationship with its local bands, showering attention and affection on a select few and all but ignoring others until they give up and move on to greener pastures. Luckily, the Continental Club is one of the few rooms in town that is not only unafraid to book Houston bands into its critical weekend-night slots, but that actually seems to prefer it. But then, when it's got a crowd-pleasing stable of talent like Blaggards, Felipe Galvan y Sus Carnales, Ryan... More »

  • 2005 | Best Midtown Club

The Houston offshoot of the fabled Austin Continental Club joins the ranks of The Godfather II and Superman II -- all are that rare breed, sequels that live up to the originals. Patrons hear local and national blues, country, soul and rockabilly acts at the funky bar, which offers old-school video games, kitschy neon signs and posters and, of course, Pabst, Schlitz and RC Cola in a can at the bar. Molly & the Ringwalds have turned Friday nights into a habit with their '80s covers, but... More »

  • 2001 | Best Austin Import

We Houstonians might smirk a bit when we see those "we're hipper than you are" Austinites struggling to take a breath over the tidal wave of growing traffic and Silicon Valley rejects. But we can't get too smug. Not when they've exported a version of one their city's finest clubs to Midtown. The Continental Club, which opened in the summer of 2000, offers great local and national acts inside a former 1920s general store (the building still has its original fixtures and metal ceilings)....
