Patrons belly up to the Formica counter at the Goody Goody for such quirky specialties as the Wilbur (an omelette bulging with chili, hash browns and vegetables) and toastamales (tamales blanketed with chili and shredded mozzarella). Though the Goody Goody offers a diverse lunch menu, the breakfast menu is where it's at; you can't go wrong with cinnamon-laced french toast. Goody's thrifty prices make for a good value that draws customers from the neighborhood and all over the city.

Nostalgia has led us to expect certain things from a diner: lots of chrome, a grill in full view behind the counter, pies under plastic domes, waitresses in polyester uniforms who call you "hon," endless cups of burned coffee, regulars who drop by at 3 a.m., cigarette butts smoldering in plastic ashtrays.
