We have two words for you: Chili Cornbread. And here are two more: Honey Butter. Yeah, we know. It's weird to talk about a side dish and its accompaniment when discussing one of Phoenix's premiere restaurants-one that spins, for gosh sake, and offers the best panoramic view of downtown Phoenix you'll ever want-but you've got to try this tasty, spicy dish when you go. And go you must, if only for the Compass Bisque, loaded with lobstery goodness. Filet Mignon is a house specialty, cooked to order and thicker than any other filet cut in town. Every entrée comes with a choice of two sides; besides the aforementioned cornbread, there's some pretty amazing garlic mashed potatoes, and the macaroni and cheese is another signature Compass dish. For dessert, we can never decide between the strawberry shortcake or the Southwestern tiramisu, so we often order both and pass them around. Speaking of "around," did we mention that this restaurant actually revolves? Oh, right. We did.

The Strawberry Shortcake is the best. You can just go here for dessert and it will be well worth it.
Arizona's best Roald Dahl-style "Great Glass Elevator" is at the Hyatt Regency in downtown Phoenix. It whooshes you skyward to the 24th floor, the home of the revolving Compass Restaurant. As you shoot up, it's fun to lean forward and place your forehead against the glass, giving yourself just a drop of vertigo. At the top, if you're feeling flush, grab a cocktail or bite to eat at the restaurant, which rotates slowly atop the hotel, giving you one of the coolest views of the Valley.... More »
Who says kids get to have all the fun? The best merry-go-round in Phoenix just happens to be a grown-up playground, a place where you can eat an upscale dinner while watching the world go by. It's the Compass Restaurant, a revolving eatery at the top of downtown's Hyatt Regency. There are 360-degree views to go along with executive chef Troy Knapp's Southwestern-tinged contemporary menu. Highlights include grilled bison and garden gazpacho with cornbread croutons; smoked salmon "enchiladas"... More »
