Event Review: Off the Beaten Trail Geocaching
I did this trip about three years ago. The geocaching is a plus, but it was a great catalyst to explore the often looked over eastern Colorado. They will send you a whole info packet with more information about the area then you could ever need, B&Bs, museums, stores etc etc etc. The geocaching gives you a good excuse to make it down to places like old CCC camps etc. I didn't really go to all the boxes, but went to most of the museums, some good, some pretty lame, but there was always some nice volunteer at the lame ones to talk to you, and it was actually easy to get away. I thought I was going to be sucked into a lonely person's conversation for hours, but really they would talk as much as you wanted to talk. Its amazing to see these places where time doesn't touch.
As soon as we drove out of the area that Our Journey covered, it got harder to find cool local stuff. We couldn't find a B&B to stay, only found antique shops by accident (which was fine since I'm not a fan), and some of the biggest tourist attractions were untraceable until the hotel guide information made us feel like idiots for not finding them. In the area that this trip covers you will not miss a thing. This was my second visit to Limon and it went from desperately finding things to do like a teenager on Friday, to resenting leaving things behind so that we could see other towns. Given no town will really hold your tourism interest for more than half a day to a day, the trip was only made awesome by the help of this program.
